I spent Thursday being thrown around in the back of a tuktuk on the way to a mountain/waterfall and some more temples about an hour from Siem Reap, as well as the Landmine Museum.
The climb up the mountain (well, 2km) was quite strenuous as a lot of boulders had fallen into the jungle over the years and scrambling over them was quite difficult! At the top there was a small stream with carving in the riverbed. I think there was a temple there originally, or some place of worship, but nature had stepped in and taken over washed odd rocks and stuff and walls away. There was a small waterfall half way down, and then the climb back down.
It rained in the afternoon like you wouldn't believe, I sort of felt sorry for my driver, but not much, as he was the less nice of the two I had (hehe).
On Friday morning I was picked up at 5am to see the sunrise over Angkor Wat. It was so odd, hundreds of people being delivered in the dark; luckily I had a torch, and being hassled in the dark to buy drinks, food, magnets etc. I think my bark of 'IT"S TOO EARLY!!!' scared them all off in one go!
We then gathered in front of Angkor Wat and watched the sky get lighter for about an hour, and that's about it! The sun came up, sort of, but not behind the temple. So I wasn't really sure what the point of it was, but I can say I've done it I guess!
We then did the 'small circuit' of temples, which was much longer than the grand circuit and I was getting quite tired of them by the end of it. We saw the temple were Tomb Raider was filmed, but I haven't seen the film so means little to me! And I eventually returned to my hotel about 1pm! What a long morning! After a good sleep and shower I headed out for a pot of earl grey and a read. I then treated myself to a pedicure. I then went to the night market and sat in the open bar chatting to some people and had some nice food.
Saturday was a very lazy day. I got up late, had breakfast in bed (that I'd got from the supermarket the day before!) did some shopping, some reading in some bars, and not much else! That evening, whilst eating, I wondered why everyone was looking up at the sky until someone pointed out the eclipse to me! I stood at the end of the main street watching it with a guy from Sydney. We eventually decided we'd get a better view watching it from outside a bar with a beer. What a good idea. We saw the whole thing but it didn't really go red, just a sort of brown, and it took ages for the shadow to pass and the moon to be revealed again. But it was still good to see as think Asia and Australia were the only places you could see the whole thing. That was actually more impressive then the 'sunrise' over Angkor Wat - and it was free (apart from the beers!).

Dave L Hi Fav Neice, Like the Kate Adey references. For all us poor mortals stuck here in RM11 all of your adventures are making us very green. Not the eco friendly sort but purely the envious shade. Keep safe best wishes and stuff. Unc
