Paros:
Well what can I say about this place?? Or better yet what can i remember haha. You do really need to write down experience as you go otherwise you very easily forget what happened. The days are jam packed and you take in so much each and everyday that it all sort of blends into one.
The change to Paros from Mykonos was amazing! The contrast between Mykonos being a full on party island and Paros is unbelieveable. It is so relaxed during the days. Beautiful views, delicious food and very friendly people!
We started Paros off with a kick! Straight off the ferry into our accomodation and off to get some wholesome proper food into us. Ross and I got a little romantic over luck with some great food! A cold seafood antifpasto plate, saganaki, ross had a tortollini bolognes and i had a spaggetti marinara, a couple bottles of water and a glass of wine and we were instantly into relaxation mode.
I have some really great memories from Paros, we were only here for two days and i could have stayed for a month easily. Mike who owns the accomodation place we are staying in is so friendly and helpful, made us feel right at home from day one!
On the first night we all went out for a dinner at a greek restaurant. There both of us tried some cantelope and purciutto and the local grilled swordfish, absolutely fresh and delicious, we really went all out on the food today. We splashed out on our first beer as well ordering a chimay blue, which ross tried for the first time and really enjoyed!
After dinner we had a young male and female get us all off our seats and up and about for some traditional greek dancing and plate smashing!! The whole busabout crew were in fine form and up and buzzing straight away!! By the end of dancing everyone was dripping with sweat, a real work out after dinner haha. The restaurant had its own beach front so after the sweaty dancing all the blokes stripped down in the restaurant and went for a swim. Haha I had one of those moments were I actually stopped and thought where in the world would you be comfortable stripping down at a restaurant and going for a swim?? It's like you forget about rules and just go with the moment. Great memories and fun times.
Everyone met up for drinks afterwards at a nice bar, here we tried a bit of sha-something or another.. basically flavoured tabacco with a share pipe :P Afterwards Evan and I went for a long walk around town, out in the middle or nowhere outside a supermarket we met 3 greek ladies from athens. Their english was suprisingly good, we asked if we could join them for the night and from there they took us to a very nice bar. It was positioned inside a windmill on the edge of a cliff with somewhat of a mote surrounding it. It was very nice to get away from the norm and spend a bit of time talking with the locals. Absolutely the best way to find out how to experience certain spots properly. Here we tried a greek beer called Fix, which went down a treat! we probably spend a good couple hours just talking. They recommended in Athens that we visit a bar called Islands or Island Bar, hopefully we can catch up with them on the night before we fly to italy!
Day two in Paros was absolutely amazing! We caught a boat cruize around the island which allowed us to visit a few beautiful swimming spots. Along the cruize we stopped off and had a bbq on the beach. grilled octopus and ouzo shots, suprisingly delicious, definately something i will whip out at the next bbq i have back in aus! Simple and delicious! Obviously all accompanied with greek salad, bread, tzatziki, dolmades and a few other odds and ends. We played some volleyball on the beach and had a couple classes of wine!! What a day! One of the swimming spots we all got to do a bit of cliff jumping! I think it must have been at least a good 10m high! Ross nailed an amazing photo of my backflip haha! One of the other guys did a black out from the same jumping spot! haha he had some balls I tell you what haha.
Everyone did there own thing for dinner that night and afterwards we all met up at a bar again. We later went to a place called dubliner which had 6 bars all in the one space! Great night with the whole busabout crew drinking and dancing everywhere, dancefloors, on podiums and on the bars themselves! Seriously out here they love the aussies and anything goes.
I definately think i will one day return to Paros with a parnter or something because it is a beautiful island, so relaxing, so beautiful, such great food, atmosphere, it has it all!
