Hello, wow, this is the fastest internet connection i have had for the whole of my trip! I might even be able to upload some pics.
I left Phonm Penh yesterday, although without Eze in the end, although he is coming down today so i am sure i will bump into him again. It was a 5 hour journey to get here. got of the coach and got a motorbike ride to the centre, with my huge backpack inpetween the drivers legs. I have found getting lifts on the back of motorbikes by far the best way (if not scariest) way to get around. I actually really enjoy being on the back of a motorbike, and got around that way quite a bit in Phnom Penh (As you will see from the pics). Stayed in a really nice hostel last nigth, with my own bathroom and everything, but it was $7. So this morning i went on a hunt for cheaper accomodation, and went to a place that said it had dorms for $2 a night. so i went in and asked the bar manager, and he said that i could stay for free if i went and handed out leaflets on the beach for half an hour each day, and would get $5 behind the bar and 25% off food. The accomodation is what you would expect (no fan, bunk bed dorms all the beds pushed together, outside toilet and shower), but it is free so couldnt turn it down. So this afternoon i spent a while on the beach in my bikini handing out leaflets just so i could get free accomodation and drink. who said feminism was dead. It wasnt just me doing it though, i met some guys from canada and South Africa who i was doing with, and there are also some armeircan girls doing it too. he even said that if i wanted to work behind the bar i could get all my food and drink for free, but i cant be arsed with that. draught beer is just..wait for it...0.25cents, so i can see that my $5 tab is going to get be extremely drunk tonight.
After all the things i heard about Sihanoukville, i actaully really like it here. maybe that is because i am staying here for free, yes it is not the smartestplace in the world, but the beach is still beautiful, and there are beautiful places to stay. i actually went to a different beach down the coast today (on a motorbike of course) to look at a place i could stay for $5 on a secluded part of the beacg, over looking the islands. it was literatlly a matress in a hut, (and nothing else) but right on the beach, however the offer of free accomodaton was too much and i came back to the slightly rougher area of town.
The sun here is very strong, i dont burn easily but i have burnt my legs and my nose, so am looking pretty rediculous at the moment. might hire a bicycle tomorrow and cycle up the beach to where it is more secluded, but will have to be back at 3pm to hand out my leaflets. Am enjoying being on my own again, and meeting more interesting people.
Will stay here until friday when i go to Ho Chi Minh.
