Our first destination in Australia was Darwin. It's a really small city with not a lot to do in the town. So we decided to hire a 4x4 to visit the national parks in the area. We went to Kakadu park which was interesting but a lot of the roads were closed so we couldn't get to the good waterfalls. It was so hot and sweaty and we were attacked by flies every time we got out of the car so we didn't do any of the long walks. Litchfield national park was lovely. There are four waterfalls that we saw. You could swim in two of them which was lovely and some people even had a bbq on a lilo in the middle of one of the plunge pools. We saw our first kangeroo and some rock wallabies. Now I wanted to see a crocodile but luckily we didn't see any. We saw some road trains and some of the longest straightest roads we have ever seen.
We headed down to broome on the bus and it was the worst jorney of the trip so far. The bus was ancient, the video didn't work and it broke down. In the end the journey took 31 hours when it should have been 24 hours. We were not impressed and we have complained to get a refund as the service was awful. we could see how vast the country was on the journey and there is a lot of nothing, just tall trees for miles then short trees for miles and maybe a bush fire to liven up the scenery! We stayed in Broome for 2 days and just relaxed by the pool before deciding to move on to Coral Bay. We started to think that we might change our flights and go to New Zealand a bit early.
