Touchdown!
That first step off the plane walking through the jet way, the sweet smell of London is in the air… I've been to so many airports and now I can barely recognize the London airport but deep inside it feels like home. As we walk off the jet way into the airport we realize we have officially been 360 degrees around the world. Not caring what people think of us, we huddle in the middle of the airport and celebrate our accomplishment. I realize this is the best experience I've ever had. After our special moment to celebrate our world tour we go to costa coffee- a coffee chain in England. Its history as our regular indulgence in sweets and hot drinks slowly comes back to us.
Waiting there in the parking lot was our taxi driver and friend, Lorenzo. He would always drive my dad to the airport to go to Gibraltar so we established a really nice relationship with him, and there he was welcoming us back to London. He drove to the airport in our car, stocked with items we had asked friends staying in our house if they would help us with. It was a logistical fete touching down for 2 hours then taking off to the USA for a family funeral and the beginnings of an unexpected move back to the USA that hit us in Japan. The car was a mess and clearly packed with haste. The only thing I cared about in the car was my favorite blankie. I pulled it out my blankie and hugged it with all my might, scratching the sides, kissing it. I hugged the whole way home. Later I found out my blankie had ripped on their watch, that made me furious. It was not the only thing that was destroyed on their watch, but that is a whole other story and things are just things.
I am so thankful for the amazing opportunity that I got to travel to places, see things people dream of seeing. I learned about so many new cultures, and maybe if I did not keep up on my math I learned how real life was, not just for me but for the whole world. In my opinion that if the best way to learn. Spending the quality time with my family was the best thing I could ever ask for. The view was always amazing, because it was from an angle that few people get the chance to explore. I am so grateful I did.
So for the last time…
