Woke up this morning in the beautiful city of Madrid. After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, our tour manager, Derek introduced us to our guide for the next day and a half, Tino.
Tino took us on a tour of his beautiful city, sharing information and the sites of plazas, neighborhoods, historic buildings, shopping areas, church, and parks ( one of which was a hunting ground for the king until 1931), before arriving at the Royal Palace.
We were able to walk around the place where Tino filled us in on the history of the palace and the monarchy. Also viewed a sculpture garden and the Opera house before boarding the bus and heading to the Prado museum.
The Prado contains Spain’s most important artist, as well as other notable European artist. Tino gave us a wonderful tour filled with terrific information about the art work and artist including but not limited to El Greco and Goya.
After lunch at the Prado, it was off to the old walled city of Toledo. Once again Tino was excellent in his knowledge of the history of the city and surrounding area. Before going to the city, got to see a spectacular view of it and the area on this perfect day of weather. After entering the old city, saw a beautiful cathedral , an old synagogue built in the Moorish style, lovely old streets and passageways, and artisans working. Even picked up some earrings and a pendent in the style of the artist.
Back on the bus to Madrid, tired, but anxious to experience some wine and nightlife, before leaving this gorgeous city tomorrow.
