Sunshine and blue skies greeted us this morning as we left pretty Valencia to drive to Barcelona.
Drive past orange trees and lots of forts/castles with our first stop is Pensacola. This scenic area boast filming for El Sid, as well as Game of Thrones, and grows artichokes !
After as snack at the charming town of Pensacola such a beautiful spot with its clear blue ocean, pretty white washed houses, and a huge fort ( which seem to be dotting these hills all along the coast. Apparently at one time they were used for inland protection for the people.). After a quick bite of food, and a little shopping hopped back on the bus to continue towards Barcelona.
Continued north to Barcelona and began to see more vineyards. This region is known for its white wines and the sparkling wine, Cava.
We made a stop at the spectacular winery Llopart. This winery sits high on a hill with vineyards surrounding it and the valley, with an unparalleled view of Montserrat.
This winery has been family run for generations, and specializes in white and sparkling wine. In attempt to have their sparkling cava be special for the region, eleven wineries are using only organic grapes, and must pick the grapes by hand. This cava type wine is called corponnat.
Bought a few bottles before heading to Barcelona and the hotel. Since it was getting late, left after checking in to catch a cab for dinner. Heading down to the ocean area, had a tasty dinner of fish and paella before returning back to the hotel.
Tomorrow is our last day with a tour of Barcelona and a excursion to Montserrat.
