Ron's Adventures
Hi All
Well I have left Oz behind and was a bit sad to go at the end. Guess that means I might have to go back. A BIG thanks and hugs to Kristy and Adam who showed me a good time on my last few days, especially our pub lunch (it's a country where you drive for an hour to get to a pub lunch!), the wineries in the Hunter Valley and my going away present from Adam - thanks.
Bangkok is a huge, hot and busy. There are cars everywhere. I arrived at about 9:30pm and it was 29 degrees outside. I have yet to join up with my trek group so have spent a day on my own wandering around. Haven't tried a tuk-tuk yet (see pic). Even crossing the roads seems close to being an EXTREME sport.
Went to museum with lots of amazing gold, silver and carved wood artefacts. One took 285 craftsmen a year to complete and was jaw droppingly detailed and beautiful. Went to Dusit Zoo which was invaded by loads of school kids. They all wanted to say 'Hello' to me and giggle. I felt like a pop star. They were very impressed when I said hello in Thai back after a while. They seemed to be fascinated by my appearance, but it wasn't just me as other westerners got the same treatment. Guess that means I don't look like David Beckham.
Saw lots of animals such as lions and tigers and bears ('oh my!'). The bears were being groomed by crows who took it in turns to land on their backs and peck at their fur, presumably picking off ticks. It looked like another extreme sport to me! Saw Benghal tiger cubs play fighting. Also I'm sure a few of the animals were on the loose as I saw a turtle wandering along one of the paths and a large lizard eating the remains of another animal in a different part. Very bizarre. Hopefully the snakes don't get out for a wander.
Meet up with my trek group today. Quite excited wondering if it what everyone will be like etc.
Hopefully I'll be able to update you more soon and give you a few pics as well.
Take care
Ronnie
