After two days of extensive travel we finally arrive in Kuta, Lombok, Indonesia. It was a rough journey that included a couple of boats, a few planes, and car journeys. We arrived late in the evening so we had to wait until the next day to discover what Indonesia is about.
The next day after a disappointing breakfast we headed out. First impressions where that it reminded us a lot of India. It was really under developed, people living in wooden shacks, food markets where everything is laid out on the floor, and animals and people everywhere. We finally made it to the beach and we were really surprised in what we saw, it was empty! No bars or restaurants lining the beach just a few wooden shacks that were lived in by locals. We carried on walking and came across a massive group of children playing in the sea fully clothed. They all shouted hello at us and took photos with us, another reminder of India. We said good bye and were then met by children selling bracelets, they were very persistent but polite. They all introduced themselves and welcomed us to Lombok. We found a tiny bar on the beach and chilled out for a bit. Well tried to, the kids followed us and sat with us. It's turns out the main reason to go to Kuta is to surf, we were there to relax and recover from our exhausting travel.
After a few hours we decided to walk a little further along the beach, it was empty, we couldn't believe it and there really was nothing about. Anyway for some reason we kept on walking in the blistering heat. Luckily we came across a hotel, not just any hotel, it was a Novotel. Slightly different to the ones we get back at home, this one was super posh so we thought we'd try out the bar that was on their private strip of beach (picture above shows the beach). It was beautiful, we settled in with some smoothies and yummy food, and wished we had the money to stay there....unfortunately we didn't!
The next day we headed down to the bar we found on our first day and chilled out on some sun loungers until the heavens opened.
Once the rain had stopped we managed to make it back to our hotel and found a very relaxed pizza restaurant opposite. We sat here all evening with a Bintang in hand.
We cut our time in Kuta down as there really wasn't anything to do so the following morning we were off to Senggigi.
