We were up early and caught the boat to Gili Trawangan (known as Gili T). We had heard this island was bigger and a lot more developed and touristy, they weren't wrong. We had a bit more money to spend on accommodation so we took our time looking around places to try and get the most for our money. We found these amazing newly built huts just off the main path around the island. It was absolutely massive and with the benefit of air con.
We spent our first few days relaxing on the beach, the beach here was a lot nicer. Monday, Wednesday and Friday are the big party nights on Gili T, after a few too many vodka's with a Kiwi we met we decided to give it a go and headed to the party. We met Ben (the Kiwi) in the Irish bar, he was actually on his honeymoon but his wife was in bed as she was pregnant. We had a great time, but the time came to say goodbye and stagger home. Suffice to say Kate had the standard Jeffs hangover and Pete wasn't far behind! The day was spent in bed.
Luckily it was a miserable day so we didn't feel like we were missing anything by staying in, but at some point we had venture out and get food. We plucked up the courage and went for it and who do we bump into Ben and his wife, Dee. So one thing lead to another and we ended up on the beer.
The next day we went for a dive, the dive sights are all within a 15 minute boat ride from the island so we could choose which dive we wanted to join, we went for the mid day one. The dive site we were heading to was called shark point. The boat ride out there was rough, we were drenched even before we got in the water. The dive was good, we saw lots of turtles and other fish but no sharks. It was a nightmare to get our kit off in the very rough water whilst trying to hang on to the boat but we managed it and got aboard, just in time for Kate to throw up over the side of the boat. We couldn't wait to get back to solid land.
From this day we went diving every other day doing one or two dives, it was a great way to break up your day as it can get a bit boring sometimes laying on the beach all day. Our favourite dive site was bounty wreck, which is a pier that sunk 10 years ago. Also randomly there are two bikes down there.
We really liked Gili T, it was pretty chilled out, the beach was lined with lazy boy bean bags to sunbathe on and at certain times of the day you can hear the call to prayer whilst laying in the sun.....it's an amazing sound to listen to. So far this is definitely our favourite place in Indonesia.
