Hello all,
Sorry for the delay with trhe blog. Internet is a bit of a pain in the arse in Bolivia plus we?ve been in the wilderness for 5 days! Anyway the crossing from Argentina to Bolivia was interesting. We went to the bus Station in Salta at 1am and meet a couple of Irish guys (Jo and Craig) so the 4 of us became 6. We jumped on our bus and it took 8 hours to get to La Quiaca which is the boarder town in Argentina we needed to cross to get to Villazon in Bolivia. After arriving at Villazon we had alot of time to kill before our train so we decided that shopping was the best thing to do. We stocked up on hats, gloves, and socks ready for the freezing cold.
So then after wasting as much time as possible we got on our 9 hour train jurney to Uyuni. we wached some crappy films and had some food and beer which we all thought was free. We shortly after found out it was not....... But it did only cost about one pound each.
We reached Uyuni at about 12.30 that night and boy it was cold about -5 and we were all so tired so we booked in to a hotel which had no heating at all and the showers were luke warm at best but hey ho.... we all managed to get some sleep and meet up the next day to book the 3 day Salt Flat tour.
We awoke the next day and has a mooch around the town, which took all of half an hour to go down every street. it is such a small town and COLD. We booked the tour and we would leave the next day at 10.00am all six of us in one jeep which was pretty cool. The rest of the day we spent walking around the market about 5 times and then we all sat in a pub/ pizza bar drinking Mulled wine trying to get warm. (Uyuni has no heating anywhere)
The next day we began our Salt Flat tour where we first went to a train graveyard which was really cool and we have some good pics, before moving on to the Salt fats. The Salt flats were so fantastic and in the middle of them there is this Island covered in cactii which looks so bizzarre next to a pure flat white landscape. We all took loads of funny pictures like me sliding out of Robs nose and so on. you could spend ages doing so many funny pictures but we had to move on to the Hostel.
The Hostel was fantastic it was made of Salt, the beds the floor it was amazing. We had a great dinner all included in the tour and we spent most of the evening playing Yaniff (a Card game we have picked up on the travells) We then that night took a walk to see the stars. ( You had to picture the six of us in pitch black walking out on to some salt planes in a desilate stone cobbled village. We had such a laugh mainly because we were shi""""g ourselves. We saw many a shooting star it was amazing and we have never seen stars like that it was unbelievable.
After a good nights sleep we set off the next morning at 7.00am to head to the lagoons. We saw about 4 lagoons all different colours with amazing backgrounds of mountains. Each one really impressive. It was a really beautiful day but my word the temprature dropped fast. We arrived at the next hostel about 5.00pm and it was freezing with once again no heating or hot water so we all decided to get some Booze to warm us up. The Boys went off to the Shp and got a huge bottle of Whisky and Beer and we spent the rest of the night drinking and once again playing Yaniff..... (Drinking at 4800 meters is not good) We had to be up the next morning at 5.00am to see the sun rise. We all felt like shi$$ waking up 1- it was so cold 2- we were all hungover.
We managed to get up and we drove to see the Geezers in pitch black before we went to the Hot sping which was 5000meters above sea level. we were there to watch the sun come up which was nice. The boys all led by Rob all got in the pool where the rest of us just watched thinking how can they possibly get out in this cold. It was that cold that Rob´s hair was freezing after about 3 minutes of getting it wet. We had breakfast and then once again back in the jeep to see another lagoon. The Green Lagoon which i couldn´t really appreciate due to the hangover, lack of sleep and being soooooo cold. That last day we did alot af driving over the roughest roads ever but it was pretty cool. All in all a fantastic tour a really great time with fantastic guides that we named Jay and Silent Bob...
We arrived back in Uyuni at about 5.00pm and we had 2 hours until our bus to Potosi, so we went back to the Pub/Pizza bar and has big fat Pizza´s which were amazing. Only thing was that Rob bless him cracked a tooth on an olive stone so now in pain and wondering what the hell we should do, he just had some pain killers and we all (Six of us) set of to Potosi on the 7 hour bus journey.
