Thursday 28th October
We eventually arrived in Christchurch - New Zealand around 3pm after our very early flight. On board we met up with our friend from China Leah :) and were given exit seats so at least we had more leg room :) When we arrived at our hostel it wasn't quite the luxury we were used to at Tom and Carols but as mum would say........ at least it was clean. We decided to walk to a nearby supermarket and Leah asked for directions to a cheap place to go so it was off to 'pak n save' lol. So we had a nice spag bol for tea :) before getting an early night.
Friday 29th October
It was another early start the Kiwi experience bus picked the three of us up at 7.30am to take us to Kaikoura. We got to our hostel which was called 'Lazy Shag' at midday. We were in a 6 bedded dorm with Leah, two lads from Leeds, Nick and Mike who were all lovely. In the afternoon we walked to a seal colony which was fantastic to see them swimming in the wild was brill. In the evening we walked to the small village and had fish and chips which was yum yums.
Saturday 30th October
We got picked up at 9am to take us to Nelson, we had a different driver called Spud who is just great, he gets as drunk as his passengers and is a real laugh. On route we stopped at a lay-by to allow us to walk to a secluded water fall where seals go to have their pups ......... it was quite possibly one of the most amazing things we have seen on our travels :) the pups came right up to us and loved the attention as they were diving in and out off the rocks. In the evening we bought bbq food and cooked it near the hostel before the lads returned to the hostel for beer tasting.
Sunday 31st October
In the morning we got picked up at 9.30am and headed straight to a supermarket to collect some picnic food we then drove to a national park and had a picnic by the lake which was amazing the scenery was just amazing :) The weather was really sunny with blue skies but it was really really cold. So some of the brave in our group decided to jump in the lake which was hilarious to watch as they were absolutely frozen and watching them scramble to dry land was quite amusing. After this we continued to Westport and stopped off at adventure tour to do jet boating which was awesome! ..... 360 degree turns, dodging rocks, high speed cruise and alot of very wet passengers it was great!
We then got to our hostel and stayed in a ten man cabin which was actually really nice. In the evening we all boarded back on the bus and brought bbq food to have a bbq and bonfire on the beach :) a really nice night.
Monday 1st November
Another 9.30 am pick-up! On route we stopped to do a two mile walk along the coast which brought us out at a seal colony which again was really lovely to see with great scenic views. It was then onto the shops where we had one hour to get fancy dress outfits which was bloody stressful but we managed it in the end ........ a ghetto nun and Greek goddess. We then arrived at our destination known as the 'Poo Pub' which is run by an 85 year old man called Les who kind of looked like father Christmas - what a legend. He put on a great grub for a fiver.....steak, vegetables, potatoes, venison stew, and pasta...yum!
We then had to get into our costumes and had a great party in the pub...some of the costumes were hilarious, the lads in our group went as a belly dancer and a baby...very sexy! The party went on unitl the early hours..and lets just say there were a few worse for wear the next morning.
