Day 10: we're back on the road, but have not moved far.
Leaving Adam mid morning we headed out of Melbourne for our arranged rendezvous with friends from the UK Emma and Rob, and baby Henry. After much cursing of the Melbourne grid road system and the enormous number of traffic light we had to go through we arrived at the Healsville Animal Sanctuary.
Emma and Rob arrived shortly after, along with their friends from Melbourne Rosie and Anthony. Baby Henry has really grown since we saw him at Christmas and is making attempts at getting mobile. More land swimming, or coordinated wiggling than crawling. great to see him doing so well.
The sanctuary cares for native animals who have been injured or orphaned. We've seen most things in the wild, but it's still great to be able to see them close up.
Caroline took the opportunity to meet 2 baby wombats with their keeper. They were orphaned when there mothers were killed by a car and are currently a star attraction of the sanctuary. She was able to get really close, and even stroke them. They were ridiculously cute and furry, and very playfully, one having a good chew on Caroline's camera bag.
Heading off we camped nearby, a short distance along the Maroondah highway. This short section of road was pretty awesome, the tall forest of mountain ash and tree ferns surrounding the winding road as it headed up towards the Alpines.
Our camp has been joined this evening by a host of different parrots. A big group of bright red Rosellas, and a King Parrot who spent his time string on Buddy watching Gareths efforts with the stove closely.
We're planning on spending the morning taking in one of the winery's in the Yarra Valley in the morning. We may not get much further than that!!
