Rob and shelley on tour
Hi to everyone - hope everything is good back in blighty..
I've just come back from an amazing day sandboarding in the dunes near Kalbarri (W.A.). We had an early start this morning getting picked up at about 7am then drove out to the dunes - we all soon woke up when Ian, our guide, decided to drive the 4x4 down a 150 ft shear drop 'for a laugh' - we should have realised then what we'd let ourselves in for but 'oh no !!'
We started off on the 'nursery' dunes doing the easy stuff like sitting up and lieing down and we soon graduated to sitting down backwards which meant you had no control of the board and couldn't see where you were heading - cool !! We also got to have a go with all 3 of us on 1 board which was really funny..
After that Ian drove us to the next dune - the 'Superbowl" !! - we looked down and it seemed like a 90 degree drop - Ian advised us that it was 280 ft drop and we'd get up to 80 kph !!!! This is when we strated to question our sanity !! - anyways being the daftest i volunteered to go first and it was great !! The feeling is really hard to describe - you're just grabbing the board for all your worth as you go flying down the dune - a real adrenaline rush !!!
We then got to have a go at standing up (- check the pose on the picture) and then we stopped for lunch - being OZ we also got to go snorkelling as well - not bad eh !?!?
After lunch we got to have some 'playtime' which basically meant we could get up to whatever crazy stuff we wanted - we managed to get 4 of us down at the same time which was pretty scary!!
All in all a great day out - suffice to say i'm still finding sand where there shouldn't be any but thats all part of the fun !!!
all our love
