Rob and shelley on tour
hi all
We are now in Tasmania. We arrived in Hobart and straight away the view from the plane was water water water, marvellous.
The city is really lovely with the harbour and trendy cafes as the main attraction. We had a nice stroll though the city and then stopped for a mexican meal and frozen margharitas (well we have to have some fun!!)
On Saturday morning we did the markets which was fantastic, nothing like Tuebrook market which is what I'm used to, this was massive and it had so many food stalls representing all sorts of food tastes including chinese, japanese, lebanese. Sadly I opted for the british jacket spud and Rob went for the British hot dog, so much for culture!!
We then headed off to a place called Port Arthur which was established as the convict place for all those dodgy brits sent over from UK. The place itself is fantastic and the prison is actually loads of different buildings all with great character. Rob decided it would be fun to do the ghost tour at night, not wanting to be a party pooper I agreed. The woman said the only places left were 10pm and so I was a little wary at that.
10pm came and the tour commenced. There were all sorts of horror stories coming from the tour guide and at once point I was terrified of looking to the back of the group for fear of seeing the lady with the blue dress that keeps attaching herself to tours, the whole thing scared the bejeebers out of me and I was glad when we arrived back at the tour office. What probably made it worse is that Rob persuaded me to go and watch SAW at the cinema the night before and if you've seen it yet you will know that it would make the most hardened of us shiver.
Port Arthur in the day was much more appealing and the buildings themselves are simply beautiful, its hard to imagine that the place was ever a prison complex, the view from the prison certainly beats Walton!! (thats Liverpool to those non-scousers) Not that I've ever been but can't imagine much of a water view from the cells there.
Heading off up the East Coast now and will report in again in a couple of days, hope you like the photos.
Lots of Love
Shelley and Rob
