Rob and shelley on tour
Hi to everyone - sorry its been a while but we have been very busy enjoying ourselves as you can see from the photo's ...
We flew out of Perth for Adelaide and that was our first experience of a Virgin Blue flight - it was camp as anything - like 'Precilla Queen of the Desert' on a plane - they even had us doing airplane aerobics that was pretty funny.
In Adelaide we met up with my mum and dad (Rob's) who'd already been to Sydney and Canberra.. They treated us to a luxury apartment, which was a big change to sleeping under the stars, which we took full advantage of !! We went to see Bridget Jones which was ok - very similar to the first one but mum and Shell enjoyed it.
We travelled from Adelaide down to catch the ferry to Kangaroo Island in our Toyota Torago - a massive 8 person people carrier which was great to drive - especially after the Yaris and dodgy Corrolla in NZ. First place on the Island for us was Seal Bay - a conservation centre where you can walk along the beach with all the seals around you - it was really good especially when we saw a baby seal playing in the sea... We stayed at Flinders Chase in the middle of nowhere and mum and dad soon got used to the travellers 'budget accomodation' though for us it was luxury to have our own shower (especially as you could see out to the hills while you were getting a scrub)..
On the second day we drove to see the Remarkables which are a load of mad looking rocks that have been eroded away to form really strange / 'remarkable' shapes - it was really woindy and we had to be careful not to get blown away... We then headed down to Admirals Arch to see some more seals - these ones were a lot more active than the day before and were alll play fighting/ swimming about which was cool.
On the night we went 'Penguin Watching' which is where the fabulous sunset picture comes from - we weren't supposed to take flash pictures of the penguins but Rob 'accidently' snapped one that you can see in the photo's.
After Kangaroo Island we went to Mount Gambier, Port Fairy and then on to the Great Ocean Road - we were suprised how busy the 12 apostles stop was as some of the other features were just as good (ie. London Bridge).. The Ocean Road itself was a bit of a nightmare as it winded along the cliff face for about 40 Km !! - I managed to keep the Torrago on the road - just !! while Shell got her head down for a snooze and missed most of the amazing views.
Before we got into Melbourne we found the Australia Surfing Museum which was pretty cool - loads of old classic surfboards and different exhibitions and things to do - check out Shell the surf babe on the photo's!!!
We left Mum and Dad in Melbourne and are heading off to Tasmania
speak soon
all our love
Rob and Shelley
