The story so far....
Goodday everyone. We have just spent two relatively relaxing days in Lake Baikal which is georgeous, surrounded by forests of Pine and Silver Birch. Yesterday we took a boat trip across the lake and walked back along the circumbaikal railway which has been built alongside the lake. It only runs on the weekend so we missed out on a ride.
Rob tried going for a paddle but it proved way to cold and he hardly got his toes wet.
We were put up in a homestay where we were able to try out the Russian Banyan, similar to a Turkish Bath with a steam Room but all made of logs. The house was quite new as was built by a wealthy man from Irkutsh but he is now living in Moscow.
Tonight we hop back on the train for 2 nights where we cross the border into Mongolia. We met a group who have travelled from Beijing and they told us they were kept on the train for 11 hrs at the border and the toilets are kept locked. A good thing Rob and I have the gas meter key!!
So its Goodbye to Russia and vodka and hello to fermented mares milk and horseback riding.
Lots of Love
K+R.
