The story so far....
We are now in Yekateringburg but as yet to have a look around. Our first part of our journey on the Trans-Mongolian was interesting to say the least.
Rob and I shared with a lovely old lady who gave us chocolate, biscuits and ice-cream. She didn't speak any English but still we got by and Rob gave her a London postcard and pot of jam.
We began the journey by celebrating in the dining cart with a few beers and introduced ourselves to a Scottish bloke who was travelling with his girlfriend but on a different tour. We later met back up after parting to have our nourishing dinner of pot noodles - luckily we have these as the menu is in Russian.
Kevin the Scotsman was well into his drinking with his Russian roomies, Natasha and Nikolai and another Russian Sacha, by the time the 5 of us got back. He invited us all back to his compartment to drink some vodka and this is where it all goes downhill for Rob. I have forgotten to mention that when we were previously in the dining cart we had several drinks and a bottle of champagne bought for us by other Russians.
Rob has trouble keeping up his drinking with anyone let alone two Russians and a Scotsman - and straight vodka it was too. At least I put coke with mine.
Back in our compartment Rob was feeling a bit dodgy and before I could unlock the door for him he managed to throw up all over me. Nice eh!!
He went missing for quite a while even though the toilet was five steps away while I cleaned up the mess.
The next morning I woke feeling this is embarrassing and the poor lady who we were sharing with but then Rob dropped the bombshell that he had also put his hand right through the train window and has the cuts all over to prove it. Visions of the Russian police waiting for us at the other end came to mind.
We had befriended a young 16yr old Russian girl who spoke great English so Rob asked her to speak to the Provodnitsa (attendant) to apologise for him and offer to pay for the window. And also to apologise to the lady we were sharing with. All ended well and the window luckily only cost 100 rubles (GBP1.60) but what a start.
I have now banned Rob from any vodka - even the smell of it.
Lets hope I can get him to the end in one piece.
Love Kylie and Rob.
