Arrived in Xi'an after our first night train experience. 6 to an open cabin - pretty claustrophobic but fun as was a novelty. Ended up playing cards before lights out - Cheat (which I was always terrible at) but ended up being more fun as we were playing with the Danish girls on our trip who taught us it's called 'Schnu' in Denmark and this seemed more entertaining to shout for some reason.
Took in a couple of pagodas while we were in Xi'an and the main reason for going - the Terracotta Warriors. 3 huge halls full of these statues was a pretty spectacular sight. They were built by Emperor Qin Shi Huang in about 200BC to protect him/keep him company after his death and were discovered in 1974. There's at least 6000 of them. Theories are he was a lonely man.(!) His actual tomb is nearby but as yet has not been excavated as mercury levels are too high. Archeologists think they may be able to make progress in another 20 years or so, but work is still going on currently to dig up more warriors.
Had a good night out for Bobby's birthday. Had a dumpling banquet with birthday cake followed by a jazz/blues bar and super hi-tech nightclub. Just your average Wednesday night out in Xi'an. (The stepover made an appearance and was greeted with the usual rounds of applause and copycat attempts)
