Roaminallover-Here, There and Everywhere
Day 3 25th July 2013
Another early start with the Gerbil. At 5.30 he was up- I’m sure he would have been spinning on his wheel had he got one-instead he was tackling the shower, cleaning his teeth and then annoying me (who was trying to get some sleep before the sacred ibis started his morning
roll call) Needless to say by 3.30 pm we popped back to the hotel- he laid on the bed and nodded off.- leaving me to do the laundry. No difference there then.
Anyway – Good News- We found the sun today- hooray ! (It was hiding under a rock on
Bondi beach) We took the train to Bondi Junction and then the bus link out to Bondi Beach. No we didn’t take our surf boards- maybe next time. It was a beautiful bit of coastline- and not too busy being winter. Still loads of surfers out at sea. Sorry Nicola. Couldn’t fit one in the backpack for you- their shoulders were a bit too broad. We have attached a few pics so you can see for yourselves. (Coastline – not surfers- sorry again Nicola- but didn’t want to get arrested for zooming in). John had been before and had told me it didn’t live up to the hype-but there you
go! First rule of travel- always under estimate what something will be like and you will be overwhelmed.
We did find a couple of delightful little pugs for you Linds- one on the coast road, and then the little fella in the pics who was outside a shop. He was sat in his whicker basket and John kept insisting he was real 'cause he could see him breathing.Indeed his little body was going up and down. Inside there were some more different breeds- all in baskets- but none of 'em moving. it was really weird and i couldn't touch them at first. When i did it felt like they'd been dead for a couple of days- but it finally convinced John when i showed him the battery compartment.
We decided we had to sample the beer battered New Zealand Hoki for lunch (That’s a fish by the way for you none foodies- not a bruised and drunken All Black) well what else can you have when you’re by the sea? I did wash mine down with Watermelon juice so it wasn’t too unhealthy. We had a Hitchcock moment during the meal when for some reason one table of diners left before finishing all their chips- and hoards of birds descended on the table from nowhere. You’ll be pleased to know that we both survived – although if John pulls his 5.30am stunt tomorrow morning i can’t guarantee I won’t be reinacting Psycho.

Carella Beautiful!
Nicola Toms What can I say.... I am terribly disappointed!! My first email of the day as I sit in your cupboard with the various bugs dripping from the ceiling is "Greetings from Bondi Beach" - I mean, how rude, then I read your blog only to find that you are going back on the promise to bring me home the perfect present. What sort of friend are you? Carella empathises with the 5.30am feelings. But we both love Gerbils! What amazing photographs... Can't wait to hear more about the cold weather. I miss you heaps :-)
