July 21. Bergen to Edinburgh, Scotland.
We got going early to the Bergen airport. We made sure we had time to stop at our favorite convienience store/ cafe, Deli Di Luca, and get some coffee and treats for breakfast. We also had to say goodbye to our favorite Deli Di Luca manager, Joaquim. He is a credit to his store.
We had a 10:15 flight to Oslo. We then had to wait a couple of hours in Oslo for our respective planes to take off. Thankfully all of our luggage made it! Oslo was where our merry band of travelers had to go our separate ways. This was an amazing adventure and I am sad to see it end.
Ellie and I had an uneventful flight to Edinburgh. We caught a bus into the city and, on our way to the hotel, were able to get tickets for our train to York on Sunday.
We found our hotel and then took a little break in our room. We were both were hungry so we ventured out for dinner. Ellie found a bookstore with A LOT Harry Potter stuff in it so we hung around there for a little while. (Apparently this Harry Potter kid is popular here... who knew?) We found a small pie shop and both got two items each. I got an original scotch pie and a haggis pie (got to have haggis in Scotland!). Ellie got a cheese and onion bake and a vintage cottage pie. All the food and our two drinks cost under $10!!!
Two quick observations:
1. We are not in Scandinavia any more.
2. Thank you Brexit!
After dinner we walked up the Royal Mile for a little bit. A sword swallower/fire eater was performing so we stopped to watch him for a while and then headed back to the hotel. Edinburgh has a lot of interesting stuff to see so we did not head back in a strait line. We stopped at a whiskey shop, got macaroons and ice cream at a sweets shop, and stopped at the Carlton cemetery before we arrived at the hotel. Tomorrow we will check out the University of Edinburgh and then see more of the city.
