we never actually planned on going to Ko Tao, we were heading back to mainland to get to Chiang Mai. The boat we were on stopped at ko Tao on the way to Chumporn (something like that) we arrived at the island and it was beautiful, it had clear waters and was covered in palm trees! we decided just after we'd docked to get off there and see what it was like. We wandered around for a while trying to find some where to sleep. eventually we found sariee cottages, which was fairly cheap and the rooms were half decent. the town we were staying in was really small. everything was within 5 minutes walking distance. on the night after a meal we decided to go out and check out a few bars, which is pretty much our thoughts every night of this trip lol. we ended up at the australian bar which was really good. they always had live music on, loads of people and the beer wasn't too expensive either. well its really cheap to drink compared to out here, but you get a good idea how much you should be paying for a beer when you get out here.
We spent the next couple of days pretty much walking around the a couple of the towns near us, eating and drinking. On the fourth day we decided we'd actually do something. we'd seen a kayak with two fishing rods just outside our hostel. we enquired and we found out we could rent the rods, boat and squid (bait) for 1000 baht. about 15 pounds. we went the next morning after a good breakfast! fishing in a small kayak is not easy lol we soon found that out, we somehow managed though. we headed about 100-200 metres out from shore to where are the other fishing boats were. we were very successful in catching lots of fish. the only problem was it was the same fish over and over again. we were catching these tiny grouper, in the end i used from for the bait. adam actually caught a really nice snapper, he thought he was snagged at 1st because it put up such a good fight.
me and adam were getting into fishing so much we failed to realise how sun burn we were. adam really needed a wee so we headed back to the cottage. when we arrived back we realised how red we were. I did apply some sun cream, in fact you could see exactly where i'd applied it, pretty much a small smear on each arm and a bit on my face. thank god vanessa left me with after sun, we used the full bottle over the next 2 days lol we in fact take adam's snapper too our restaurant to cook up for us later that night, we never went back to eat it though!
On our last night in ko Tao we met up with out American friends, we could have met up with them earlier but they were doing a 4 day diving course. We met up with them to celebrate because them and everyone else on the course had passed their padi open water. after a few drinks at their bar we headed over too the australian bar. Me and adam been concerned about money and been cheapes skates along with kush just went to the 7/11 for our beers and came back to the bar with bar with them. what...? they're half the price at 7/11. after the night out as always we were starving. long the streets in asia you'll always find a row of Asians with small stalls that sell food, we don't think they even sleep because their always there! The guy that made crepes saw it more of an art making his crepes. you could see it in how much concentration he had and the pure speed he went at! we've got some pictures but the video really shows you his crepeage skills. With plates of chocolate crepes we headed back to the cottage. We decided to leave ko Tao the next morning, after saying our emotional goodbyes to the American guys (especially Jordannn!) we headed for our boat. we had to run as usual because we went to wrong port and only had 10 minutes to get to the right now. we arrived on our boat just in the nick of time as they were just setting off, i had to run down the pier whilst adam sorted the tickets out. we had a really nice trip from Ko Tao to the mainland, we sat on the front of the ship and just took it all in. adam told me there and then he loved me... only joking haha. when we arrived back to mainland we headed too Chaing mai, stopping over at Bangkok on the way.
hope everyones okay
Love, Rick
