I left Kampala from Red Chilli backpackers to go on a tour that they ran to Murchison Falls which cost $170 for 3 days.
I was travelling with 7 other people 4 Canadians, 2 Germans and 1 other Brit. We got to Red Chilli rest camp in Murchison Falls national park at around 5 after a long drive and we just chilled out and had dinner. We were told when we arrived that hippos came up to the camp to grace and whilst we were chatting during the evening a fully grown male was grazing about 10 feet away from us. It was a pretty amazing site to see it so close and to see its real size, I had seen plenty in the water before but never so close. During the night we were visited by some hippos grazing by our tents at around 3 in the morning and my tent mate woke me up with one right next to the side of his tent, they were harmless really as they were just grazing. Hippos are the most dangerous animals in Africa and kill more humans that any other animal and can easily out run a human.
The next day we rose at 6 to watch the sunrise which was quite good and then headed off on our 4 hour safari. During the safari we saw elephants from a far, lots of buffalo, wathogs, girafee as well as a pride of lions with 2 females and 7 young lions who were about 2 years old and developing.
After the safari we headed back to camp to grab some lunch and set off for our drive down the nile heading towards the falls. During the boat ride we saw lots of hippos, crocs and other animals on the side of the river. We stopped a distance from the falls but the view provided us with a good introuduction to the falls.
The next day we headed up for a walk of the falls which provided us with some great views of the falls. We were able to get very close to the falls which was pretty impressive as you could see how strong they really are. There are no other falls that I have been to in the world where you can get so close, ther is no rail or rope blocking you from getting so close.
