From Kosan Road in Bangkok I took a bus to the Thailand and Cambodia border. The road from Bangkok to the border was very nice and we had an nice air conditioned bus to take us there.
When we got to the border and managed to cross without any real problems we waited for about an hour to get on to our next transport to Siem Riep. Cambodia was a lot different from Thailand and was a lot less developed, it was actually a breath of fresh air from Thailand and it was nice to see the real side of south east Asia.
We jumped on a rather crowded bus and headed on our way to Siem Reap. We were quite crammed in on the bus and the roads were in really bad shape and we were going no faster than 5 - 10km an hour all the way. The scenery was stunning which made up for the bad roads and we finally made it to Siem Reap at around 2 in the morning 19 hours after setting off, everyone was really shattered but glad to be there.
In the morning myself and my 3 Aussie friends organised to go to the temples and in specific Angkor Wat the largest religious building in the world, according to some sources but I am not sure in what context. We hired a driver for $20 a day who would drive us around the temples and we got a $40 3 day pass.
Each day we would go and explore the various temples that were on offer for us to see. The temples were absolutely amazing and there was so many different ones to see. The temples had star grading as to how good they were 5 being the highest 1 the lowest. There was two 5 star temples Angkor Watt and the Babel. Both were very impressive but the Babel was my favourite and is know for its many large faces in the stone work. Some of the other temples were also very impressive with tress growing out of them and temples in the jungle with roots and bricks just lying on the outside of the temples.
All in all the temples were an amazing experience, although after 3 days we were templed out and ready to go on to pastures new. Cambodia itself is an amazing country so different to a lot of south east Asia and original as well, you could really see the country for what it really was.
I would have to rate Cambodia in my top 3 countries along with Ghana and China.
