Today we have a 4-5 hour drive from Battambang to Phnom Peng (Cambodia's Capital). after breakfast and checking out, our first stop after about 1.5 hours was at a pottery factory where they made cooking pots, this factory only had a few workers but you could follow the procedure of how the pots where made and it was interesting.Back into the van our next stop was at a water side village where houses were both floating and on long stilts as the water was very low in November the water level is about 4-5 meters higher than in July. After a good look around it was back into the van and headed down the road and our next stop was a road side restaurant for lunch, we had some truely local food and before heading on the road decided to pick up some beers for the next part of the trip. I was thinking 2 or 3 each but our drive organised a special price and got a dozen cans of local beers, ice plus a few soft drinks, and I got change from $5. Out next stop was Oudong (Cambodia's former captial and the location on Phnom Oudong a temple which is alleged to have a piece of bone from the last budha. Once again heaps of steep stairs but once at the top you get great views. back to the van for then final section to Phnom Penh and arrived at the King Grand Boutique Hotel (www.kinggrandboutiquehotel.com). There we said good bye to our guide as we were getting a different one for the last days - (we had the same driver the who trip) the hotel was quiet modern with very fancy door locks (that yes I was able to muck-up) after a quick confort stop (for those who are uncultured - used the loo) we headed out and explored the area and found a vibrant place for happy hour (500ml of beer US$1.50 - alot more than US$0.50 at Pub Street @ Siem Reap). Had a walk around found a place that looked ok and had dinner.
