Have had an awesome time at Alice Springs and Uluru. In Alice Springs we had a coach trip into the bush which included a couple of gorge walks followed by bill tea and sandwiches. We also visited the Flying Doctor Service and School of the Airways. Don't know how families manage to live miles out in the bush. The scenery was amazing as we moved from Alice to Uluru. I would have said it changed every turn, but the road had few bends!! We passed through cattle stations miles and miles from nowhere and on into the semi-arid landscape of the red centre. We had half an hour before we were off on our first trip to Kata Tjuta and a walk between two of the domes. The ground was boulders in mud formed millions of years ago. We went up and round and down and round until we were allowed to go no further. We were between two rock walls. Awesome!! We then returned to Uluru for drinks and snacks as we watched sunset at the rock. Stunning colours! We were then whisked off to a BBQ and star gazing in absolute darkness. We saw few stars when the lights were on, but so, so many when the lights were all off.
On Wednesday we were up at 4.30am ready for sunrise at Uluru. Again an amazing sight!! We then embarked on a couple of walks at the base of Uluru with a guide who told us Aboriginal creation stories and showed us cave paintings and waterholes. After three hectic days, we had two half days relaxing around Ayers Rock resort, before flying out at 2.30 Thursday afternoon.
