We arrived at Cairns on Thursday late afternoon and were taken by minibus to Lakes Resort. We have a lovely apartment on a complex of 18 three storey blocks. There are 4 swimming pools, some with sandy beaches and also lagoons with fish and waterlilies. Friday we had a chill-out day and spent time around the pool and catching up with washing. We went into Cairns by bus to have a mooch around and do some shopping. The Cairns churches put on a free international concert in the town square which we watched initially, before heading back on the bus.
Saturday and we have been out on a catamaran sailing ship to the Low Isles on the inner reef. We went snorkelling both before and after lunch and saw amazing coral, fish and turtles. The tide was low so we had to avoid swimming over the coral, just around the edges. We were advised to wear lycra suits!! Very stylish!! We were also advised to use life jackets or swimming woggles. Glad we used the life jackets as we could stay in the water longer. We had a lovely salad lunch on board and choice of beach walk and talk, glass bottomed boat or snorkelling. We chose the latter.
Today we have been into the tropical rain forest by secenic railway and returning over the jungle on the cable car. Again an amazing day!!

Lynette Cottam John and Maureen, You are only a hop, step and a jump from us. Had I know you were going to Cairns I would have suggested you extend your trip up into PNG. :( We would have loved to see you and show you our world.
