So today was slightly surreal and rather upsetting, but first the day started well. We started the day by exploring a bit of the city on foot then grabbed a jug of chilled beer once deciding what to do with our day. Having heard of firing ranges in the area we decided to visit one to check the price whilst on one of the longer tuk tuk rides which was made longer by the dirt roads. On arrival we managed to barter down the price of two magazines for an AK47, we then fired down range, great fun. They did offer and RPG (rocket launcher) but unfortunately I didn't have $300, next time perhaps . After this I proceeded to a cashpoint on the back of a moped to pay the range and then proceeded to the killing fields in Cambodia. Whilst we were in relatively good moods on arrival that quickly changed as we began the cassette tour that starts with the monument to the dead that contains thousands of skulls and bones of people who were needlessly butchered under the pol pot regime. The sight was deeply upsetting and really bought it down to earth how lucky we are in England to have all we do. The problems that we have are so petty in comparison to problems around the world. If I had visited the killing fields before hand I would not have been even able to contemplate the firing range as an option for the day. One of the worst things about the killing fields is that it was only 30-40 years ago this happened. In one word Barbaric. But after this we went back to the hotel then went and grabbed some dinner. today really opened my eyes.
