Living The Dream
Sh*t sticks, I missed my boat to Isla del Sol as I spent most of the night before pebble-dashing the communal toilets due to a return of my 'food poisoning'! In the morning I was asked to leave the hostel as I had no reservation. I ended up at a hostel just along the same road. I checked in and lay on my bed feeling worse by the minute. I eventually decided to go to the local hospital but, before I could leave, the kind hostel owner called up the doctor and asked him to visit my room. After the usual checks he announced that I had Gastroenteritis which was probably salmonela based. I bunged him a load of cash and he came back with enough drugs to make Pablo Escobar look like a small-time crook! "Take this to help stop that, take this if that happens, drink this potion and don't forget those other 3 types of pills I gave you"! "Here's my mobile number if you need more drugs"! I was taking about 7 pills a day and consuming 1 litre of salt water! Another two days in bed! I could really do without any more hold ups!
I eventually made it to the island which is very pretty with good views. The boat trip there and back was pretty cool and I got chatting to some cool California people.
Today I woke up and had breakfast at 9am in preperation for my journey into Peru and up to Cuzco. As I went upstairs to pack my bag, the hostel owner informed me that I wouldn't be going to Cuzco today or tomorrow as the local equivalent of the TGWU had called a national 2 day strike. F*ck, these lazy Bolivians are trying to ruin my trip to Peru! First they serve me bad eggs and then they cancel all buses right when I needed to be moving quickly again! Whilst twiddling my thumbs, I bumped into Niki who had made it to Copacabana after a brief stint in the jungle. We both have to leave Bolivia on Thursday because our tourist visas will run out by Friday! Some English guys who I met in Potosi had to leave today so they picked up their bags and walked to Peru!
The strike has been reduced to only one day now as Evo has sweet-talked the unions. So on Wednesday, I can finally go to Peru!
Next destination, Cuzco (Fingers crossed). Niki and I have decided that if we both get to Cuzco for the weekend we are going to hit the absolute smash!
