Living The Dream
Back on the road...
Rosario, the third largest city in Argentina, is located four hours north west of Buenos Aires. The city is set on the banks of the river parana which is a breathtaking site, especially so, if you catch a glimpse when the sun rises around 7am.
This city is the birthplace of two legends. One living, one dead. Che Guevara was born here in a house which is now an insurance company. Lionel Messi also hails from Rosario. He is in the city visiting his family now. An English friend met him in a club that I was unfortunate enough not to be in. I find it ironic that such an ugly man can be from the same city which offers so many attractive women!
The city most certainly lives up to its much talked about reputation as the place with the most beautiful women in the whole country. There are scores of cute girls and they all appear to love English men!
I travelled from Buenos Aires with a half Austrian half Japanese guy called Ken. Having spent a bit of time hanging around with him in the capital, I had assumed that he was a quiet kind of guy. However, once in Rosasio he was more than enthused about the idea of hitting the smash every night! We ended up on a three day bender which involved gatecrashing a University interfaculty night where we were the only tourists, mixing it up with the locals in a club dancing to Cumbra which is a bizarre Argentine musical something which appears to get the locals in the party mood. On the last night we went down to the riverfront to a club called 'Moore' as its name suggests it is much like a place where Bond, James Bond might hang out. I was recommended this place by an English guy who I met at a house party in Buenos Aires. His advice was to hang around the bar and speak in English to your friend who should be standing shouting distance away at the other end of the club! Apparently this is the way to get attention from the girls! We arrived at 0030 hours which is the equivalent of arriving at an English nightclub at lunchtime! There were four of us sipping champagne on the terrace overlooking the dancefloor! As usual, the dancefloor was full of people eating dinner until around 3am. Only around 4am did the staff sweep away the tables and the party people arrive! We noticed that everyone was mincing around trying to look good so we went downstairs and started waving our champagne around like a trophy! A rare opportunity to flaunt our wealth and not be afraid to offend! The sheer volume of hot women in the three clubs that we went to was enough to make you wish you were a Sheik! Its paradise and I can only imagine how good this place would be when summer comes around and the locals are poncing around on the beach in bikinis! I'll be coming back here to look for a wife in about 8 years!
Other than 'birdwatching' I visited various churches, buildings of importance and the impressive Monument De La Bandera which, if you head to the top, affords you a fantastic view on the city with the river backdrop.
One funny experience here was an impromptu ride through the city on the back of a truck. The reason for this was that we got chucked out of our hostel as they had booked in some Orthodontists due to there being a massive convention in the city. The hostel agreed to give me an Ken a lift to a new hostel.
Next up, Cordoba 'The heart of Argentina'
