23/12/09 - day 14.
up at 5am, taxi to the coca-cola bus station - i had been told and had read that walking there at that time wasnt safe - and waited for the 6am bus to Santa Teresa. there were LOADS of people queueing for the bus and they had to get a 2nd one to take all the people. bus left at half 6 and after a couple hours we got to puntarenas which is where i had to get a ferry across to paquera before getting back on the bus for a futher 2 hours to complete the journey. whole thing took about 6 hours. had to walk the final kilometre to my hostel, cuesta arriba, which wasnt great in the blazing heat.
checked in, realised i needed an atm to pay and so had to walk for the best part of an hour to get to one. santa teresa is basically 1 little dirt track, which has been turned into almost a road in parts, and has hostels, places to eat and surf shops. 5 years ago it had nothing, they used to just get about on horseback apparently! the place reminded me of the islands we visited in thailand.
my hostel was only a 2 minute walk to the beach and after a shower and some food that was where i headed. it was full of surfers as the waves here are always massive, having said that, there were still long stretches of beach that were pretty much deserted.
did some previously purchased pasta in the hostel for dinner and hit the hay around 10pm.
