Buenos Dias. After leaving Bolivia early we got our final new passport stamp into Peru. Originally we were going to head straight to Cuzco from Copacabana but we decided that we had enough time to come to Arequipa first.
We are both so glad that we did, its really beautiful here. It surrounded by 3 huge volcanoes, the smallest is 5,800, meters aboev sea-level! They are snow topped and really nice to look at, we went to a hostel which was full but the next 1 we tried was perfect, a really nice room free internet and breakfast and a roof terrace with awesome views of the volcanoes. We arrived quite late so by the time we had checked in and settled down we wanted some food. We found a nice looking restaurant so went in....here´s where it all goes wrong - it was a vegetarian restaurant.....disaster! Actually the food was pretty good and the first meal we had in ages that consisted of salad and wasn´t fried chicken (thats all they eat in Bolivia!).
The next morning (after a really nice complimentry breakfast!) we headed for the bus station to get a ticket for Cuzco...it was an absolute mission way further than we thought! When we finally arrived we got a taxi back to the main square!
The main plaza is really nice surrounded by cathederals and churches which we went in for a look around, they are all massive churches in South America and 1 had the largest organ in South America inside. After a bit more exploring we decided to go for a drink. We went into a restaurant with a balcony over-looking the square, the view was amazing with all the volcanoes in the background. We sat for ages just chatting and drinking, after the waiter said we could go onto the actual roof for an even better view. We weren´t sure how it could get better but still went. He was right the views were better we could see down all the little side roads and all the hundreds of taxis whizzing around. After we had lunch for 75p and evening meal for 1.20! just as cheap as Bolivia although the accommodation was more expensive.
Next stop Cuzco and the only place in South America we definately new we were coming to, from what we have heard its going to be just as good as the rest of it. Hasta Luego Amigoes!
