So Buenos Aires. What a city.
After taking yet another beautiful bus from Mendoza we took the big step of getting the subway to our hostel. After successfully negotiating that we arrived at our hostel and went for a wander into the city. The main city area is really nice and very modern. THere were loads of people selling loads of souvenier things. You could spend a load of money of cool stuff here but we resisted the urge! Buenos Aires is the main tango city in the main tango country so we decided that we would go and watch some. From the leaflet we got we thought that there was a free show but when we went down there you had to pay, it was prettty expensive so we gave it a miss. QWhen leaving we walked out onto the street and there were people doing it in the street for free! Im sure it wasnt the same quality and even though hannah was dissapointed we missed out earlier she was happy that she saw some.
We are staying the san telmo area and on sundays it is the main market day. The stalls were selling much of the same stuff but it was all so so cheap you could spend the whole day just walking up and down just looking at all the stuff. Again there was free tango in the streets and other street performers so we had a really good time just walking up and down. After we went down to the dock area and walked up and down the river for a few hours which was nice. That evening we sat up with a few others playing cards and just chatting which was nice not to speak spanish for a while!!
The next moorning we headed for the Cemetery where Eva Peron aka Evita! is burried, it was more of a little village than a graveyard. Instead of tombstones and gardens there were 'streets' with tombs where whole families of the rich and famous opf Buenos Aires have been buried. The artwork was amazing but it didnt seem right people posing with Evitas tomb, we got a few pics but i (rich) found it slightly strange...almost wrong, its quite hard to describe but the place itself was beautiful.
Our final full day here we went with 2 guys from the hostel to the Palmero area, this isthe posh area of Buenos Aires and the gardens and parks were cool, I got told off for walking on the grass it was that posh. The guards almost had a heart attack when dsome Japanese guy strolled way onto the grass completely ignored their frantic whistles and was taking photos!!! We had another cheap Argentinian steak, Im never eating steak again unless its proper Argentinian, they really are so so undescribably good.
On our final day before we took the night bus we went to the Boca area, this isn't the most friendly neighbourhood but in the tourist area during the day is prettyv safe. All the buildings had been painted different colours and there are loads of street performers and bars. Its not a big place but it was one of the best places in Buenos Aires we visited.
Hope everyone is OK back home and looking forward to seeing us!!! Adios Rich and Hannah.
