Satisfied we'd seen all that Cervantes and surrounding area has to offer we moved on.We'd been recommended to stay at Kalbarri for a stopover, so we did.It seemed a nice little town but the after effects of the cyclone were still reminiscent in the air, it has rained very recently and the estuary was full of brown river water which clashed with the blue of the ocean with a rather impressive brown/blue line inthe water.
Now, no trip to the Kalbarri area would be complete without a trip to Nature's Window. It sits about 27km out bush. It is a wind blown hole in a rocky outcrop which frames the river below. It made for a good photo opportunity but I feel our photo collection is in danger of becoming pornography for the Australian Geology Association. While at the 'window' it started to rain, we hurried back as the already saturated un-sealed road would've been tricky if the rain continued. The rain and wind continued though the night, hurricane Nicholas giving us a small taste of his now very dwindled vigor. The Ponda Rosa held her ground, only letting the water in a rip in the canvas that I inflicted on her.
The morning came and went to see the Pelican feeding the locals provide for the tourists.Learnt a bit about them but a bit boring to go into.Packed camp and we started the very boring road to Monkey Mia and we passed the turnoff road to Nature's Window which was closed off as the rain had made the road unpassable.
Gem's Note: I will forever remember Kalbarri as the place Rich soaked our neighbours. He was setting up the tap and managed to create quite a spectacular water feature straight into some unsuspecting tourists van….heee heee heee
