G'day, it's been a while but here's the latest! We left you in Perth, before boarding the Indian-Pacific for 2 days of nothing, and very nice it was too, before reaching Adelaide in time for Australia Day and world record attempt on the beach. This involved having the most people in the water at Glenelg Beach on giant 7ft inflatable "thongs" or (take not Aussies) FLIP-FLOPS as they are properly called. Over 800 people and some organised chaos later it turned out Bondi Beach had beaten us in the record breaking stakes.
We visited a wildlife park and got to pat koalas, get attacked by emu's and feed cute little kangaroos (feeling no remorse the day after when we tucked into kangaroo steaks during a winery tour). A visit to the wineries proved another challenge as we had to sample all that was on offer, one of the four wineries had 20 samples and at the Wolf Blass vineyard I found my new drink of choice….a $185 bottle of wine, I am sure Asda will have that on the 'Whoops!' shelf at some point.
After a little rest in Adelaide we took the overnighter to Coober Pedy, a weird little town where house and hotels are underground, the areas is littered with opal mine holes (a 1 metre wide vertical, unmarked hole that's 30m to the bottom) and the scenery has inspiring names like the Moon Plain - where they filmed Pitch Black and Mad Max. Next stop Alice Springs and a trek to Uluru (Ayers Rock) for sunset, sunrise, sleeping under the stars and being woken by hoards of ants in the sleeping bags.
We had made it half way across Australia and a whistle stop tour of the South East saw us visiting Ramsay Street in Melbourne and visiting relatives (and finding a box of Yorkshire tea), admiring the very British rain at Bondi Beach and the opera house is Sydney, before heading to Toowoomba via Brisbane for a well needed rest and even more needed wash of some clothes.
A very brief rundown of the last month, didn't realise we hadn't updated this for so long as we've been constantly on the move, there are some amazing pictures to come. Miss you all.
Love Rich and Em x
