We left Kansas (I mean Borneo) via Singapore and landed in the merry old land of Oz. Its 42 degrees right now in Perth, and while theres no yellow brick road, there are white beaches, blue skys and Australias version of lions and tigers and bears (kangaroos, kookaburras and the biggest spiders in the world EVER!!!!).
A few days couchsurfing in Perth to recover from travelling, we headed to Freemantle and hired a car, to make the 4 hour journey south to Margaret River. The area is famous for wine, and in a small space there are over 90 wineries....all with free tastings :) To add to this there are cheese and chocolate factories, also with free tasting, in the beautiful vineyard setting in the sun.
We camped in the National Park and the first night the tent was attacked by all kinds of beasts that sounded the size of monsters, but were probably tiny bandicoots. A move of camp site and we saw 5 kangaroos (unfortunately all dead on the road - one was even being eaten by an eagle!!!), we did eventually see a live one who just happened to hop by the tent the next morning, and then another giant one who did the same in the dark that evening.
Australia is the friendliest country (and the most expensive) in the world, and the beaches are stunning. Going to try snorkelling if we can tomorrow and then we have booked on the Indian-Pacific train from Perth to Adelaide - a few days of the actual outback and the longest, most remote stretch of rail track in the world....
Will update you at the other side.
Love lots Rich and Em x
