Ric Flack's Travels
Our flight left Minneapolis at 9:40 pm. We used Frequent Flyer Miles to upgrade to business class so the girls were quite excited about all the amenities and cool seats that we got. Kelsie even thanked me for getting us the seats.
Shortly after taking off we were served a meal. We all started off with chilled tomato basil soup, salad, and an appetizer of shrimp on lemongrass and hearts of palm and beets with blue cheese. Regan and Kelsie had steak with baked sweet potatoes and squash, Nikki had a pasta with a gorgonzola sauce and I had salmon with a citrus sauce, boniato puree and asparagus. Nikki and I finished with the fruit and cheese plate and Regan and Kelsie had ice cream sundaes.
We then all slept for a few hours before being woken up for breakfast. Regan and I had mushroom swiss omelets and Kelsie and Nikki had granola.
We arrived in London about 30 minutes early so had to circle for a while before landing. We made it through customs and had our luggage by 12:15. Our driver was waiting for us just in the reception hall and the car was waiting right across the street.
We hit a few heavy traffic spots on the drive so it ended up taking us about 1 hour 40 minutes to get from Heathrow to the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge.
Check in was a problem. The hotel had chosen to ignore our request for connecting rooms and had no rooms near each other. The best that they could do was two room on the same floor but in different hallways. When we went to our room, Nikki and my room was an accessible room with a roll in shower which is completely unacceptable. So, I went back down to the lobby, stood in line for about 20 minutes and then another 20 minutes while they tried to find us rooms near each other. Finally they found us rooms next to each other but not connecting.
Our plan was to go to St. Paul's Cathedral this afternoon then visit Fleet Street (you know the place where Sweeney Todd and Mrs Lovetz made their meat pies). We heard about a great old pub on Fleet Street as well.
So we left the hotel, walked to the Underground and made our way to the train where the girls and I got on but Nikki missed it. Luckily we had discussed the stops that we were going to take so she met us at our connection point on the train that came about 3 minutes after ours.
We got to St. Pauls just as they were closing it. So, we decided we would walk over to Shakespeare's Globe Theater to tour it. Unfortunately, it was also closed. With two strikes against us we decided to just walk to Fleet Street and have dinner. We ate at a Pub called Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. It is a pub that has been around since 1667. We ate in the cellar and the girls were convinced that this is Mrs Lovetz shop because there was a hole in the ceiling.
After dinner we went to go see Trafalgar Square and then take a ride on The London Eye before turning in for the night.

Who Else??? Sounds like you are having a lot of fun and what a great experience for your family. As we in the windowless building would like to ask what is a roll in shower? If that is not a typo then you will have to send pictures because we are curious. Take it easy and we can't wait to see more updates.
Justin Flack I can't believe you left Nikki! But I'll give you credit for being persistent, very few people can get what they want the way you can!
PAM OK, I'm jealous, wish it was me there. Hope you are having a great time, keep the updates and pictures coming.
Steve Baker Oh man, I remember the last time Nikki got dissed and left behind during a Disney Cruise trip! Who would think that her own husband and daughters would do this! :-P I'm glad you got the room situation worked out - it looks like it was beautiful weather in London today!
Ric Flack A roll in shower is a bathroom that is designed for people who can't get out of a wheelchair. There is one big bathroom that has a drain in the floor. It is all tiled. There is a hand held shower head in the corner and the whole bathroom; sink, toilet and everything else are in the shower with you. I didn't take any photos...sorry.
Susan Baker Steve would leave me behind, too, Nikki, but I would never leave you behind! I am very jealous of your trip - I wish we were there! Have a wonderful time.
Mic Anderson I can't believe all you did after an overnight flight! You go Flacks!
