It's only been 5 days since we left you in Singapore but we've been busy! We've stayed in Ubud, Bali, inland, and been enjoying the mountains, rice paddies, hiking and taking down some awesome food.
It was a rough start in the Southern Hemisphere with our accomodation cancelling us 24hrs before we arrived, our airport taxi never arriving and someone attempting to swindle Dan whilst changing money - little did they know they were up against Hawkeye Hiles, who is especially vigilant with his dollars!
However when we finally made it we realised our (unswindled) pounds go much further here than Thailand/Malaysia, and we have views from our room over the jungle, and the other way the rice paddies. We are here at a full moon too so as part of the Hindu celebrations the locals have been padding around in their traditional dress and combined with the old temples dotted everywhere and the air thick with incense, the whole experience has felt much more cultural than its northern neighbours. We have even been invited to the cremation of the Grandmother of the owner of our guesthouse (she died 5 years ago. Its a long story...)!
We hired a driver yesterday to take us to see a bit more of the island, and just as we were flagging at the end of the day he said to us 'You want try Kopi Luwak?' .... 'You mean the coffee that the cats poo?' ... 'Ha ha yeah- I know good place'... Well an offer like that can't be declined can it?! So we wander about the little coffee farm and see 'the raw ingredients' (a load of cat poo) and they show us how its done (I dont think health and safety would be wild at home) but we do get a brew and what do you know... its delish!
Anyway, we are off to the Gili Islands for a week or so now, just a couple of hours on a boat and only 1km wide...
