After leaving Laos we have spent a week templing ourselves silly in Angkor, seeing rural Cambodia in Battambang and having our hearts broken in Phnom Penh.
Ignorant of the scale of the temples of Angkor we spent 2 full days being blown away by a whole range of temples, pretending to be Lara Croft and culminating in sunrise over Angkor Wat itself.
We then moved on to the countryside and braved our first Cambodian bus. Our first experience in Battambang was the hilarious Bamboo train, much faster than it looks. The following day we reverted to classic team Hiles tactics and found Cambodia's only winery for a winetasting. Taste-wise lets just say for the meantime it will probably stay as the only one too...
Our days on the tuk-tuks were accompanied by smiling faces and a chorus of 'Hellooos' from the bushes by a selection of gorgeous Cambodian kids.
We then moved to Phnom Penh (slowly as the bus broke down 6 times on the way...) and back into the chaos of a SE Asian city. Trips to a Khmer Rouge prison and the Killing Fields certainly put our worries in perspective though.
Good news as well that Hiles tours have avoided strike 3 and a potentially terrible tripadvisor review. After booking the wife on 2 'toy planes' with propellers we are on a proper Airbus to Bangkok later. From there we are heading fdown to the islands for some sunshine and r&r.
