Those lucky enought o read my travel blogs over the years will be familiar with visits to cemetries such as the Lockerbie Scotland Memorial, Arlington in the US, small memorials on roadsides or those remembering motorcyclists who have died.
This trip to For get me not ponds West of Calgary combined a number of reoccuring themes. There were indeed memorials this time plagues attached to seating around the whole pond as noted in the lead photo.
It was also a time of happiness with members of families who have grown into my extended family. You will see perhaps three generations in this blog as I captured "ä day in the life"photo collage.
Like many of my visitations around the world this was not the first visit to For get me not ponds and as the name implies probably not the last.
i was only there last year but rain prevented most outdooe activity so travelling with the same people we arrived complete with their Grandkids Reid & Emma-Lee on a 30oC day, late in Summer.
This time the area was well populated with people busy with picnics, canoes, kayak's, air boats (pump up only), walking dogs, swimming and generally just socialising whilst engaged with the beauty of the natural landscape and vegetation.
I did say it was my second visit but it was a shock to be walking back with the kids to hear a lound voice call out "Hey Aussie!"and no I was not dressed in any national costume infact my baseball cap read CUBA!
I sent the kids back to the grandparents and went back to the group of four men. Not only did one know me but two knew me with one coming from Bryon Bay some 200kms North of where I live. It was not that association but our mixing in motorcycle related activities that formed the recognition. Two of us actually remet the next night at the local A&W Bike show in North West Calgary.
After enjoying our morning tea with a squirrel who was so friendly he actually took the ring off Emma-Lee's finger so he could lick off the chocolate icing from her cup cake that had touched the ring. Yes he was a gentleman and gave the ring back after cleaning it.
With lunch well secured we left the picnic table and walked the pond which you will see from the photographs has great scenery at every turn.
After lunch a short trip to a closeby suspension bridge and the opportunity to continue the argosy of the 2013 floods.
Returning towards Calgary we stopped at the Elbow Falls picnic area (destroyed by the flood) that I showed in lasts years photo's but being so beautiful I again retook some iconic scenery.
I hope you enjoy the beauty of nature in this part of Alberta as much as I continue to do so. After all life is not only a motorcycle but a means of enjoying the unlimited bounds of natural features.
