WATOC-What a trip
The GPS was forgotten in our haste to leave so it was geography to find #225 59249 18 Ave SE.
Fortunately none of our party suffer from ADHD or ADD so we happily to accept that ADSS was our chosen destination.
It was raining so it was a drop at the gate of ADSS and the car parked some distance away. ADSS made us welcome for their Stampede breakfast and offered pancakes well no they didn't gee withdrawal was likely to happen. So what did they offer well a bun (sandwich) with a choice of white or brown no that is a first for Stampede breakfasts and into that bun went a prepared M&M meat or veggie patty. Whatever they did to them they were great in taste and a decent size. Also available were pickles,no thanks, potato salad, lettuce and a combo salad with tomato sauce (called ketch up here) mustard and even better red sauce. No kidding not telling fibs the bottle said Red Sauce and while it looked Iike tomato it had a different full favour that was well worth sampling.they had pop & soda (soft drinks and fruit juice), coffee available.
Undercover seating was available and a demo of a mud (concrete) stucco pumping machine was awaiting the eager crowd, I braved the rain and waited while they filled the tub with mud, then pumped it into the hose only to find the trigger would not go on with mud in the pipe. So later we came together again and no mud came out at all. Well try again and no the machine wasn't pumping. So the whole exercise was abandoned. Pity lots of demo walls were set up and areas cordoned off. So no I can't tell you what happens beyond a generic covering of the wall with mud and then it would be painted. Common over here but called cement rendering in Australia. By the way any Canadians looking for an expert in this field I know just the John-well that is his name Stucco John great rates and top quality service, especially for those small fiddly or repairs after others have messed up.Remember now that Earl's restaurant in Calgary want to add a 16% service charge rather then tipping John offers even more amazing value as he can bearly afford the pop I introduced him to. If visiting the US or Canada try Henry Weinhard's Black Cherry Cream. This gourmet black cherry cream soda is hand crafted with the flavour of black cherries, black raspberry and bourbon vanilla. Wow and yes it is correct black raspberry just like the nursery sells yellow strawberry plants. So hope Monsanto didn't make them as a GM food!
Well it was a wet drive back to John & Margaret's and settled down when yes the rain stopped so it was repack into that big black suburban and out of town headed for Bragg Creek and the Provincial Park.
Arriving at Forget Me Not ponds we got out for a walk around the lake before lunch. Just into the walk and the rain had us scurrying back at a Seniors leisurely rate and home made sandwiches and fresh homemade blueberry muffins and spread with real butter were both enjoyed and consumed in moderate quantities along with freshly brewed coffee and a wee drop of Bailey's cream to ward off the weather.
Still given the mountain scenery that in this area is so picture card perfect no trip even in bad weather is wasted in Southern Alberta.
Even the trip to Co Op for groceries (www.calgarycoop.com) at Quarry Park is a delight as the buildings have character and the range of goods exceeds that seen at Woolworth's or Coles. For comparison also look at No Frills Canada (www.nofrills.ca) and for those of you who need drugs (not that kind you idiot) try this site (www.shoppersdrugmart.ca) or another opposition Real Canadian Superstore (www.superstore.ca).
The photo's tell a thousand words so enjoy the photos as a slideshow
Those who remember the title may like to know why I put ADSS in the title well that is a builders store that we went to for this breakfast and it stands for Alberta Drywall Supplies & Services.
