Dear friends and family
We arrived at San Pedro de Atacama in perfect weather, awesome desert city.
Due to the altitude we felt dizzy, Salta is 1000 m and San Pedro de Atacama is 2500 km. which makes the air thin. To be prepared for higher altitudes is it recommended that you use at couple of days every 1000 meter for the body to adjust.
First day in San Pedro did we do abselute nothing, chilling in the sun and drunk alot of water, which also is recommended, my guess would be it was like 40 degreas during the daytime and 8 degreas during night extremly cold.
The second day in San Pedro de Atacama we used to book our tour to the Salt Flat and Bolivia highlights and desert.
After booking we rented some bikes, with some of our friends from US, AU and Kenya for getting some exercise and visit a famous salt lagune.
We started mountain biking from San Pedro de Atamaca to the Lagune 25 km each way through desert and extreme sun, it seemed like forever the first 19 km was at highway alright road to bike on, the last 6 km was trough sand, hard!!!!!!!
We got to the lagune and everything was picture perfect, we all jump in the water, this was quiet an experience there was so much salt in the water it kept you at the surface, pretty awesome can only be recommended.
After a healthy salt experience we biked back, my friend forgot suncream, and got burned so bad, still suffers from it 10 days after...
Rest of the day for me went by the pool.
Almost forgot I tried one of the best restuarants ever called Adobe, we went there twice, best food ever and the presentation of the food was amazing, never seen before. Got a Chicken ceasar salad one of the times, I cant describe the presentation but when you come visit me, ill make it for you and rest of the company :)
The 3 days tour from San Pedro de Atacama (Chile) to Youni (Bolivia)
We got picked up 7 in the morning, way to early if you ask me.
We started checking out at Chile Migration and check in at Bolivia migration, the border was a little house in middle of nowhere, think 5 polices officers and one stamp for the passports, actually there was a women aswell changing money for people in her little purse and a calculater.
After entering Bolivia we paid the fee for the national park 25 bolivianos (20 kr.)
First day we saw so many lagunes, red lagune, colared by Flamingos, the green lagune, the white lagune, the black lagune the smelly lagune etc.. All really beatiful and rich of Lamas and Flamingos, deffently dont need to see more lagunes! Landscape was amazing, we were driving in 4rdw between mountains, vulcanos, rocks and desert.
We stayed at a hostel in middle of the desert, everything seemed abanded, food was amazingly good.
Most strange was the morning when we woke up, and looked out of the window, 10 cm of snow everywhere, AMAZING!!! at 10 it all was melted. and the sun was baking hot..
The second day, we saw some geysers and incredible rocks formations, of course we all got to the top of the rocks dangorous, everything for the perfect picture ;)
Again a perfect day, had the best people in our jeep, when we were driving, we learned spanish from a couple from Chile.
The third day, train graveyard and the most important Salt flats!
During the night it had been raining alot, so the driver wasent certain the road would be open for turists, all where sad, course the trip were all abouts the Salt flats.
First we went to the traingrave yard, nothing really to write about a few trains dumped in the desert, cant understand its a turist attraction.
After we went to Yuoni to get some informations about Salt flats were open or closed, the drivers desited to go there, turned out it was the best desicion ever!
We came to the beginning of the Salt flats, like loking in a mirror, most beatiful sight ever, the clouds mirroring in the salt flat, it actually looked like the end of the world, fantastic!!
The Salt flats is so hugh you would get lost there, in the middle of the flats, there was a hotel buildt out of salt (of course), had so many fantastic pictures taken, you where able trick the eyesight at the camera.. Pictures coming as soon I get a good wifi connection! ;)
The reason why it was so perfect, was the Salt flats where covered by 3 - 5 cm water which gave the ultimate amazingly fantastic photos, due to the reflection of the sky.
BEST TRIP EVER!!!!!!!!!
We stayed in Youni for a night, not much to write about, its a tourist city, nothing to do other than chilling, food was bad and nothing happened, still had a good time, with a couple from Chile Diego and Valentina.
