Dear people from all over the world
La Paz the city in the mountains of Bolivia, so high up in the air approx. 3600 meters altitude, so hard to walk around cause its up and down hills at all times and the thin air dosent make it easier. The air was also full of polution, you could actually taste it, from all the cars driving by. Never have i seen so many people in a city before, the rows was so full, you had a hard time going anywhere. Only half of the city houses is build finished, and so many house have a broken foundation, which means the house never would be safe to life in. People is really poor and I wish them a better future.
First day we arrived in La Paz we didnt do that much, we booked at the hostel called Wild Rover an Irish hostel, very good hostel free wifi, excellent food and cool staff. We got settled and walked around the city booked our biketrip down the death road. The evening was quiz night at the hostel, had a few beers and went to bed.
Second day, we walked around the city of La Paz, saw some hugh markets, only for tourists, they sold lama stuff in everyway you can imagine, I bought a hammock I have no clue why, seemed like a good deal, only 85 kr. But it absolute fill up all space in my backpack. There was also a riot in the city, people blocked the roads and you could hear gunshots, fireworks and teargas granats explode, luckely a few blocks away. Where we were it was quite calme, but saw policeofficers with hugh machine guns, granatlunchers and wering fully combat ready gear. All day went by walking and we had an early night.
Third day (death road by bike)
We started way to early picked up by car at 7.30 in the morning. drove for an hour to the first bike point, this was the first bike ride 20 km down concrete road, this wasent so dangerous got cool pics and a fast ride down hill, have to mention the first place we took photos, we had some crazy south korean people, who went to the edge of a rock and jumped at the rock to get pictures, I would say the drop was like 600 straight down. After the first part of we had a snack and prepared for the real death road, we got on the bus and drove into a cloud, could see 7 meters ahead, it was scary, after 10 minutes we were at the start. We got ready and started to bike down, never have i tried anything more dangerous, riding off road with the edge sometimes not more than 1 meter away, we stopped many times to get pictures and have snacks, I can only recommend this bikeroad if you have great expirence riding a bike. We were eight in our group 5 fell of the bike including ny friend, luckely any was serious, but again one of the south korean, felt and got some nasty bruises at his leg, cause he wasent paying attention to the danger. After we came down we got a medium good buffet and a nice swim in the pool. The evening we went to drink and had alot of fun with the people we meet from our hostel and from the bike ride.
Fourth day.
Bad hangovers.... Walked to the market to buy cheap North Face stuff, couldnt find anything and the qaulity sucks, saved our money and sorts out the next stop, Lake Titicaca (Copacabana Bolivia)
Sum up:
Great people and great experience, dont go to La Paz just to visit, go only on purpose. Death road was an experience, dont go unless you are a really good cyclist. Remember to give respect to those who lost their life driving there.
