Bit delayed... Sorry!
Phuket was awesome. We spent 6 days here in a lovely hotel run by a very friendly Liverpudlian man called Dave. The room was huge, and the staff were all lovely. And luckily for me the restaurant had sports on TV constantly so I was never bored!!
Me and Ted booked a tour to do an elephant trek, and to go see The Big Buddha. We were taken to the elephants first, for our 45 minute trek. Two minutes after getting on the elephant and it setting off down the path, it decided to freak out and dart in the opposite direction towards the other elephants, and nearly over a cliff edge!! (I just heard my entire family gasp... Imagine how I felt!!) Apparently it was a young elephant, and it had seen another baby elephant on the track up ahead. Once the baby elephant had disappeared, our guide got the elephant back on the track and it continued without any more freak outs. Safe to say it wasn't a very enjoyable ride after that, with both of us being on edge the whole time. We got some fantastic photos though!
The next stop was The Big Buddha, which was a really, really big Buddha! It had really beautiful views over Thailand up there, as it was on the top of a hill. I also got blessed by a monk and got a free bracelet. There were lots of other spectacular, smaller Buddhas up there too.
We had a few beach days in Phuket too. The waves were quite big, so Tom and Ted were like big kids playing in the waves. I may have joined in with some wave jumping too.
There were a few different areas nearby that we explored in the evenings. There was a place called Kata where we had a nice pizza meal, then listened to some really good live entertainment in a bar that we had to retreat to when the rain started hammering down. There was also an area called Patong which we had a night out at. It had a street full of lively bars bursting with lady boys (I had some photos with some very glamorous ones).
On one of the last days me and Tom hired a moped and drove firstly to Kata-noi beach, which was a very posh area full of beautiful hotels and apartments. Then we headed to a fish market, the big Buddha again (as Tom didn't come on the tour with me and Ted), another beach (I forget the names of all these places), then ended the day stopping at two different viewpoints to see the stunning sunset.
In the evening we went back to Kata to meet up with Tom's dad Phil and his friend who had arrived that day for a holiday. Phil was very sweet and bought all our drinks for the evening!
After our 6 days in Phuket we went back to Bangkok for two nights before flying back to Oz. We saw Sebastian here again before he flew home to Germany. We lived our last two nights in luxury in a posh hotel with a pool and huge breakfast buffet, before returning to hostel life in Sydney.
Thailand was incredible. I have such good memories from my three weeks there, and would go back in a heartbeat (though perhaps when it was just a tad cooler!)

Mum Gosh, I read this yesterday and FORGOT TO COMMENT! How can that be? I think it was probably the shock of the elephant story. Suffice to say - yet again - your grey haired mother is getting greyer with every death defying experience recounted. Just SO GRATEFUL you are still alive. Couldn't they plan an elephant trek along a nice wide plateau? With NO cliffs available to rogue elephants? Glad you are safely back in Sydney where I assume your transport will just involve buses, trains, cars (and hopefully no elephants or mopeds. But pleased to hear you were wearing a helmet on the moped). Keep safe. Love you loads xxxxx
Andy the Stepdad You know you loved ones well! I did gasp.......... What a brave girl to carry on. I could say you've got balls........ But as you are enjoying the company of lady boys that is probably not the right thing to say! A lot of people fall in love with Thailand so you are not alone. Enjoy your second spell in Oz.......... But don't loose your accent! Hope your plans work out. Love from your Stepdaddy thingy........ xxxxxxxxx
Chris Blackler Good Grief. For once I am utterly speechless! Uncle Dave told me about your blog and the elephant ride and I went WHAAAT ? " and then rushed in to read the rest. Can't say any more. I am still suffering from shock..... Oh yeah, just one thing, (well my being speechless for long was never going to last) glad you had a fab time in Patong. We have our own version of a ladyboy on the Eurovision Song Contest tonight. Yes it is that time again. The AUSTRIAN entry is a bloke (I think) with a beard, but then the full face make up of, and dressed as a woman. Our entry is the usual unmemorable rubbish. Have you told Greg about the elephant? Better not as he will only add elephants to the long list of dangerous species that you MUST avoid at all costs. Bless. He has never mentioned wine though. Lots of Love Auntie Chris and Uncle Davexxx
Dad Whew, Jess. One death-defying stunt after another! Next year, a seaside stay in Bognor Regis beckons. Mind you, there's probably Listeria in the ice-cream or something, so perhaps rampaging elefunts aren't so bad after all. Keep safe, darling. Dadxxx
Pat Ibbetson SPEECHLESS, heart stopping, breath taking that about covers my reaction to the latest adventure. Love A.Pat
Kelly B Just caught up on this story. Couldn't stop laughing at the elephant episode! God... I wish i would have been there to witness that!! Hehe xx
