Our second full day in Bangkok we went to meet our friend Seb, who had arrived and was there for our two last nights. We got the sky train over to the big MBK shopping mall to do some shopping! We had some Thai food for lunch, then headed back to our hotel to get ready for our evening out on Kosun Road, which is a pretty busy place full of bars. We even shared a fried scorpion here... Which was just very crunchy with no taste!
The next day we had a lazy day at the hotel, then went out for a wander through the night market in the evening and had some food before saying goodbye again to Seb.
The next day me, Tom & Ted flew to Koh Phangan. It was only an hour flight, but it had been delayed by two and a half hours, and by the time we arrived at the ferry port, we'd just missed the 2pm ferry to take us over to Koh Phangan, and the next one wasn't till 4pm! So it was quite a long day! We arrived at our 'Sea Salad Resort' around tea time, so after we'd checked into our beach hut, we had a nice Thai meal in the restaurant and an early night!
The next day we hired mopeds (I can hear my mother wince at the thought - don't worry, we made it back in one piece!)
Firstly, we headed to an elephant reserve, where we all fed an elephant some bananas which was so fun. We then went to find a beach called Bottleneck Beach, which was down a steep, bumpy mud track and took a while getting down as we had to go very slowly. It was well worth it though. The beach was beautiful, and very quiet (probably because it's such a hassle to get to). We had some lunch, a sunbathe and a swim then left.
On the way back up the steep hills, the mopeds got stuck and it was a long, tiring struggle to get them up the hill. Not so much for me, as I wasn't driving one; I was on the back of Toms, and I had flip flops on which had no grip on so I just slid down the hill every time I'd try to help push it up. So I got to watch the boys try and manoeuvre them up, which actually was hilarious (though I did feel bad for them as it had to be about 40degrees, so pretty hard work!)
We briefly stopped at another beach bar and had a drink on the beach, then left to make it back to Sea Salad before it got dark. We were pretty exhausted after this day, so went for an evening meal on the beach and then had another early night.
In the morning, me and Ted had planned to go to a Yoga session! In our taxi from the ferry port, a girl called Elise jumped in, who was a yoga instructor at The Yoga Retreat, just 10 minutes round the corner from where we were staying, and she'd said they do drop in classes. And as we had the mopeds till 11am, we headed off for the 9am class. It was Ashtanga Yoga... A different kind of yoga to anything either of us have done before, but it was very good... And very HOT! Everyone was dripping with sweat, it's obviously very effective!
We spent the rest of the day at the beach, which is a 1 minute walk from our bungalow, and is really nice. The water here is so warm! We had another beach day yesterday too, and we even bought some snorkels!
We're especially enjoying the food here, which is so ridiculously cheap, and so tasty everywhere you go. I had a Red curry and a sprite (yes Mum - a sprite - no wine!) yesterday and it cost me £2!
We've got the Full Moon Party tonight, which thousands of people go to, and should be good fun, and tomorrow I expect we'll be recovering on the beach....

Low ha ha yoga! Well done! Sounds like your having a great time, enjoy the full moon party, stay safe xxxx
Mum Well I am in a complete state of shock! Not only has Low commented before me! But - I had hardly recovered from the thought of you eating SCORPION - when I got to the moped bit - and yes you did hear right - wince and heart missing a beat. So glad I only hear about this when I know you are still alive. But the pic of you feeding the elephant is so cute. I liked that bit. (And the bit about the sprite) lots of love xxxx
Chris and Dave Blackler Hi Jess, Your mum is in a state of shock, WE are in a state of shock - I cannot believe Lowri got in first ! But WOW what will you do next ? I thought only meerkats ate scorpions. Good grief. Wasn't so worried about the mopeds, but more concerned with your wearing flip flops whilst you are riding one. The elephant feeding - it was SO wonderful. we can't wait to see more piccies. How on earth are there still things left for you to do ? - seeing as you have done most of them. Great blog Jess. Look forward as always to hearing more. Love Auntie Chris and Uncle Davexx
Pat Ibbetson I thought the photo shoot with the tigers was pretty amazing but you keep coming up with all these new experiences. Could cope with feeding the elephants bananas and I'd rather have a banana than a scorpion. You are so brave to even try these 'delicacies'. I'd also pass on the moped ride. Love A.Pat
greg Do you think you're on holiday or something? Where's the next update?
reginafilange Haha yes actually brother... Thailand has been our holiday from our holiday! But it's over now... I'm at the airport heading back to Sydney. So I've done an update :) xx
Dad It all sounds brilliant, what with scorpions on mopeds, and meercats in flip-flops, all welded together with frequent visits to bars. I guess the alcohol might help prime your stomach for more exotic, crunchy fare. Relieved that you are headed back to Oz, hoping you have landed safely and found somewhere nice to stay.
