We woke bright and early for our second day in KL... not! The jet-lag had done a number on us and we didn't actually make it out of bed till 1pm. And we weren't even sorry because our room was so comfy and nice. But we eventually dragged ourselves out to wander around the city and get lots of photos of the Petronas Towers. We popped into Suria Mall which is attached to the towers and went for a cheap lunch in the food court. After a nice wander around KL city park (and several more photos of the towers) we sat and watched a water fountain show outside the shopping mall before heading back to the hotel to get ready for the evening.
We'd seen a few bars just down the street from us with good happy hour deals so decided to go for a few drinks and some dinner. We opted for a Beer tower because we're classy like that (it holds about 6 pints that you just pour at your table), and enjoyed it with a delicious chicken & rice meal (I think it was Lebanese... but I could be wrong!) After happy hour finished we got a taxi over to a more lively area where we sat outside and had all the staff working as our personal body guards all night... we've never felt safer! At one point one of the female members of staff even walked Gaby to the toilets and waited outside, while another man watched me like a hawk till she returned. We met some great people... including some members of the Dubai cricket club who were good fun. After a very late night we were pretty tired again the next day so headed up to our rooftop pool for a swim and sunbathe. We then went up to the top of the KL Tower (which was literally opposite our hotel) to take in the panoramic views from the open-air deck before & after the sunset. Our hotel had a very fancy restaurant with big glass windows that allowed great city views, so we decided to skip the beer tower scene and be fancy for our last evening in KL. We had every attempt in getting to bed at a decent hour that night, but jet-lag decided it wasn't finished with us yet, and after an hour sleep we were both wide awake & chatting till gone 2am. Shame we had such an awful nights sleep in our last night of luxury (we decided we're going to try and be better backpackers after this), but it didn't stop us from making it out at 8am to get up to the Batu Caves before we had to check out of our hotel later that afternoon. Batu Caves are several caves used as temples and were very interesting, with different things to see in each (although we only went in two of them). We also got to see the local inhabitants in the form of monkeys, and there were some adorable baby ones!
We then made our way back to the hotel to get ourselves ready for checkout and were all set to catch a 3pm luxury coach back to Singapore, but unfortunately we ended up with a useless taxi driver that was unable to find the street where the bus leaves and pretty much dumped us at the side of the road (albeit quite apologetically - and free of charge... should think so mate!) So after a lot of walking round with our luggage and asking for directions from any English speaking Tom, d*** or Harry, we obviously looked so helpless that a very nice guy came and gave us directions to another bus company stand that was close by, so we booked 2 seats to leave on the next bus. It was a lot of drama crammed into one hour, but we are now safely back in our hostel in Singapore ready for our flight to Bali in the morning. PLUS the bus only took 6 hours... compared to the 10 hour drive we endured getting to KL. EVEN BIGGER PLUS... the reclining seats had a massage function!! So wasn't a bad end to the day. When we arrived back in Singapore we popped straight out for a bite to eat at a North Indian & Mexican restaurant... that didn't serve one item of Mexican food. So we split a delicious curry and we're now off to bed. Night night all. Next stop... Bali!

Mum Writing all those medical essays certainly hasn’t blunted your humorous, travel writing skills. Thoroughly enjoying reading your posts (over and over again but that’s what mothers do) and chuckling to myself at the mishaps. But the mishaps always seems to turn out to your advantage. Safe travels to Bali. Lots of love xxxxx
Andy Stepdad Hi Jess, sorry to hear about your bus problems! Always worked for us... just bad luck I guess. Please send some sun back from Bali to the UK... by express post!
