Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We woke up at 4am to find that we had left Naples Harbour, then slept again until 8.30am!!!! Unheard of for me!! The waitress at breakfast told us that the winds were the Mistral winds that are so strong. After breakfast we went along to the Marseilles/Lisbon/Southampton tour talks, then bought a necklace of gold (23" at $US2/inch) and got a free matching bracelet. Whilst we were shopping we saw that Lord Wedgewood was autographing his goods, so we bought a small plate with the QE2 on it and I got in a lineup to meet him and have him autograph our plate.
After lunch I went to the 2nd Art Auction where they told me it would cost $US100 to ship our prize home - so I attended the auction and won a second art prize!! Now we can ship the two home for our $100! This was followed by a talk by Mary Higgins Clark, the famous author - she was very entertaining. We then went up on deck to watch our approach and passage through the Bonifacio Strait between Sardinia and Corsica. It was such wild weather that we couldn't go onto the front deck beneath the bridge. We had to leave then, to go to Palm Sunday mass, and I did "Peace be with you" with Mary Higgins Clark!!! After mass we came back, showered and went off to have champagne cocktails with the Captain. We chatted with Andy Holloway, the head of security - nice chap. The captain announced that today's weather was the roughest for the entire cruise from New York so far!! No wonder our porthole keeps being splashed by waves!!!
