Colleen & Tom's Explorations
We finally drove onto the ferry at about 3.30am. We left Holyhead harbour at 4am. On the ferry we did a bit of duty free shopping, then we found a comfy spot (after having sandwiches and drinks) and dozed.
We arrived in Dublin at about 7am and decided not to stay so we drove out to Newgrange.
Newgrange is a tomb constructed by neolithic farmers, over 5,000 years ago. The tomb (or passage grave) is 500 years older than the pyramids, and it was made so that at sunrise on the shortest day of the year (December 21 - winter solstice) the sun shines through a "window"above the door, straight to the tomb.
After the guided tour there, we made our way to Mullingar to buy lunch and do shopping. Along the way we drove through water on the road (slight flooding) and cows crossing the road - the roads are not quite like what we bacame accustomed to in England.
The supermarket we found in Mullingar is really good, but they don't take visa!! Mullingar is quite a big town - it is the county town.
We then drove out to Multyfarnham and found our cottage (#2 of 14) and slumped in front of the TV. We were all tired. We'd bought lunch and dinner (steak and vegies) provisions so we could just take it easy.
We were going to watch The Bill, but we watched Bill (& Hillary - Clinton) instead. He turned on the Christmas lights in Belfast.
