Colleen & Tom's Explorations
This morning we set off early - I drove for 2 1/2 hours to Wesport where they have 100 islands in the bay. The tide was out and some of the islands were joined to the land! There wasn't a headland or anything to view them from, it was very flat so we then drove on to Clifden, via Kylemore Abbey. The boarding school was so picturesque, serene and absolutely beautiful. They even have some borders from Australia. The abbey was originally a castle but is now an abbey for the Benedictine Nuns.
Clifden is a very small, picturesque, touristy village. Tom bought a lovely jumper (30 punts instead of 50) and I bought some t-shirts for Sophie and Charlotte. We had difficulty finding lunch - all the fish and chip places were closed, so we went to a pub.
We then drove on to Galway and Clarinbridge - home of the oyster. I was determined to try their oysters but the only place to find them was in the restaurant. They packaged 1/2 doz up for me - just open in their shells - and it cost 5 punt!! When I asked if there were any in a jar for sale, they looked like I was speaking another language!! The oysters were no better than Sydney rock oysters.
When we were in Clifden we bough the makings for dinner so we drove home and had chicken pie and vegies!
