Colleen & Tom's Explorations
Woke up to the same weather that we've been having all week: showers followed by breezes followed by sunshine followed by showers .... And so it continues. The local people are quite puzzled by their weather.
After brekky we had a Skype session with Jess and Pete, followed by a Skype session with Chari. All is well everywhere, but it was nice to see people. Sophie and Joe were out partying.
By the time we finished chatting to Chari it was time to head out for lunch! So off we went - our little car is parked down in the public car park across the river (they call that a river? 'Tis nothing but a stream!) across the road from the school. It's just a five minute walk down the little cobbled alleys that are our streets - medieval walled villages don't have parking. I've taken some photos of our pathways.
And off we drove to Rieux. There was no-one around. Midday on a Saturday. Totally dead quiet. The lady in the restaurant said it was normal for a Saturday and that tomorrow would be quiet too as people spend the days with their families.
Our meal was very nice - pâté again for me, goat cheese tart for Tom, then we both had delicious duck breast with lovely fresh veggies, topped off with a petite beautiful layered chocolate cake with a crispy base. This was 14.50 euro each. This time the alcohol was separate - 3.50 euros for the St Jean Muscat that we love, followed by a flask of local rosé.
After exploring the streets of Rieux we returned to Caunes and continued on out the other side to the Roman bridge from yesterday. It's just isolated over the "river", but is quite picturesque.
By then it was time to return to our cottage for a nap.
Just soup with bread, cheese, fig and nut paste and luque olives for dinner!
P.S. the pictures of the grapevines have marginally educational captions to go with them.
BTW - if you tap on the photo of second street on the left, you'll be able to read the caption which will explain the reasons for those three photos. :)
